EDCTP Prizes
The biennial EDCTP Prizes recognise outstanding individuals and research teams from Africa and Europe who have made significant achievements in their research field. Additionally, the awardees will have made major contributions to strengthening clinical research capacity in Africa and supporting South-South and North-South networking.
The Prizes are part of the EDCTP programme which is supported by the European Union under Horizon 2020, it’s Framework Programme for Research & Innovation.
Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize
This prize is awarded to senior scientists, policy-makers or advocates for health and research, from anywhere in the world.

Outstanding Female Scientist Prize
This prize is awarded to world-leading female scientists in sub-Saharan Africa working on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected infectious diseases.

Scientific Leadership Prize
This prize is awarded to excellent world-class scientists in sub-Saharan Africa up to 50 years of age working on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected infectious diseases.

This prize is awarded to outstanding research teams in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe working on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected infectious diseases.

Outstanding African Scientist Award
This prize is for senior researchers who have made outstanding achievements in their field and who are recognised as research leaders in Africa.

Rising Star Award
This prize is for scientists who are 45 years of age or younger, mid-career researchers who have made significant achievements in their field and who will continue to become leaders in their research field.
Outstanding Senior African Scientist Award
This prize is awarded to a senior scientist based on a number of criteria, including innovation/ Intellectual Property, impact of research, publications and advocacy for health. It aims at fostering the research activities of the winners, with the aim of strengthening clinical research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa.

Outstanding Junior African Scientist Award
This prize is awarded to a junior scientist (under 30 years old) based on a number of criteria, including innovation/ Intellectual Property, impact of research, publications and advocacy for health. It aims at fostering the research activities of the winners, with the aim of strengthening clinical research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa.
